Survey: Japanese men taller, chubbier; Japanese women taller, slimmerJapanese men and women have become taller over the past 12 years, but males are now a bit chubbier while females are slimmer, according to a survey released by the economy ministry on Monday.
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry conducted the survey on about 7,000 people between 19 and 80 years old from 2004 to 2006. It was the first time since 1992-1994 that the ministry has done such a survey.
Makers of clothes, automobiles, household electronic appliances and other products asked the ministry for survey because they need data on body sizes to plan their products.
The survey had 163 categories, including height and weight.
According to the survey titled "Size-JPN 2004-2006," Japanese men in their 30s and older have become taller and heavier.
